NFT based games worth looking into

There are a bunch of games across many blockchains that are starting to look really fun to play. The entire space is evolving rather quickly and finally the wet dream of indulging in exciting NFT based games is on the rise. The space is growing at such a rapid pace that it is impossible for anyone to stay on top of everything. So hopefully with this article I am able to help you locate a few interesting games at different stages of game-play.

All the games added in this list have either a team with a great track-record and/or lots of experience in the gaming industry. Meaning, they have an increased likelihood of creating a fun game where you can disappear for hours awesomeness.

Some of these games are more casual, and others are starting to look like full fetched e-sport level games.

Other games I left out of this article mainly because lack of exciting progress, or failed to deliver what they promised.

Fully playable games

Blankos Block Party

Blankos is one of the best built NFT games, if not The best NFT based game available. It's smooth, fun and exciting to play, specially if you load up some friends over discord and play together. You will find hours and hours of fun game styles to play, as well as a fully fletched map builder.

There are 3 main game styles, PVP shooter, speed race and collect game mode. The PVP shooter reminds me a bit about how quake weapons work, and can be ton of fun.

Blankos run their own blockchain, and is free to play. They do sell limited edition NFT cosmetics for people to use in the game to change their looks. They have already collaborated with tons of awesome artists, and have their own NFT marketplace. They call the game early access, but it's more complete than any other NFT game available.

Splinterlands - Card Game

Splinterlands is one of the first successful NFT games that started out as steem monsters. This game has been around for years, and with their launch of Lands and the splinterlands token, the game took off to new levels over the last few months.

It's free to play, so you can test it out and see what you think before you buy any cool cards or packs.

Splinterlands is a card game, where your strategy is before the match actually starts, how you put together your hand based on the match details such as game mode, enemy game history and mana pool. When the match actually starts it is all automated based on the order of your characters.

Mir4 - MMORPG

Mir4 is a fully playable MMORPG cross platforms where NFT based characters is a reality. The game looks fresh and exciting, it seems fun to play at first, but then you read reviews and listen to people playing it... It seem to be mainly bots and at the current stage it is unbalanced and pay to win.

I add it here mainly because it is one of the most exciting looking games out there, free to play on steam, so test it out and get your own idea!

The game seem to be made to be automated with their AFK auto farm feature and map layout.

The Uplift World - Minecraft mod

The Uplift World took a genius route when it come to NFT gaming. They took an exciting game platform and build NFT accessibility on top of it. Why invent the wheel over and over again. Minecraft is a super successful game that has withstood the test of time.

For The Uplift World, you can own NFT Land Keys which give you full right to a piece of land inside their Minecraft servers. They got a few different servers with different rules and settings to please all type of players. By owning a land key NFT you and those that you whitelist are the only players able to build and dig on your piece o land. Which enables you to build out your Minecraft dream inside a big universe with many other players.

People are building amazing stuff in survival mode and creative mode across these servers and you can spend hours just walking around (or taking the train track build out) exploring peoples builds.

Personally I've spent hundreds of hours inside their servers building out my huge survival world pyramid with my friends. Feel free to come visit it on the Gratitude server just north west of spawn at 1700x1700.

While playing you will also earn cryptocurrency, as well as the land owner where you are walking and spending time. This is on the WAX Blockchain.

Alpha & Beta Releases

Phantom Galaxies - Early access

I have not yet played this game myself, but it do look very promising. So the rating is solely  based on my research of the game. At a later stage it might change.

Phantom Galaxies is an open world shooter based in space, where you control your mech character in a 3rd party view playstyle. Personally I am not a big fan of arial shooter games, but this do look exciting and I will surely test it out as soon as it goes live. Check out the trailer and look for yourself.

22 racing series - Racing game

Personally I am not a huge fan of racing games in general, however there are a few exceptions. I LOVE the need for speed franchise, specially those where you race in cities with traffic. But I also love Track Mania nation, a kind of unique and crazy track racing game where you do your best to ride optimally and get the best time on maps.

Now, 22 racing series is not like Need for speed, but it do remind me a lot of the feeling of track mania nation. The speed and control is really sweet, but the map layout of 22 racing series is something entirely new and awesome. They build on the phantasma blockchain which enables them to do some cool shit with their NFTs.

Each car in 22 racing series is a unique NFT, however, each part of the car is an NFT as well, which you can take apart and put together in any new combination you desire. This truly enables any fan to create and customize their own car just the way they like it, and later, if they please, sell that exact build to a new player.

I played this game first time about a year ago, it is fun but had some glitches and lacked a bit of optimizations. Which the team is working hard on fixing and expanding upon ever since. There are some challenges to create a multi platform multiplayer racing game at 1000 km/h matches.

Did I mention that the game license itself is also an NFT?

Metropolis Origins - card game

Metropolis Origins is built by a talented and experienced team of game developers. It just launched and already have a playable alpha version of their game available on their website. All the cards are NFTs on the WAX Blockchain.

I have only tested the game briefly, but you can already tell that it is a promising game which is further ahead than games that has existed for years. They got a lot of work to do to optimize the user interface and game overall. Totally worth testing it out! Play a few games and get the feeling for it, if you want your own cards there are a lot of them available on the 2nd hand market on WAX.

Million on Mars: Land Rush - Mars virtual world

The Million on Mars team is built up by tons of experience in the gaming industry and will likely build and deliver one of the better casual games utilizing NFTs. The rating right now is based on their limited alpha release, there are features needed to add stars, such as adding multiple NFTs at the same time to the world.

Currently, you can get your self some NFT land, pick a spot on mars, and build out your base. You can go and explore the world, brew your coffee, and gather game resources.

If you want to learn more, I got a full interview with the team to learn more about their background and the future of the game.

Clashdome - Citizens

Clashdome.io is a game platform with casual web based games built by a small game studio in Barcelona. Over the last year they have added multiple casual play to earn games for anyone to play. Now they have just launched the alpha version of their Clashdome Citizens, which is a play to earn game that ties together everything in their platform.

You can see that it is built by a experienced team because of the way they try to connect the different games into one experience by adding this new citizen game.

You will be able to breed your NFT citizens, and creating a way to earn more of their ingame tokens, duel other gamers and much more.

It is a great amuzement park of casual games that are perfect for commuting to and from work, or in the sofa while watching TV.  The games, leaderboards, NFTs and tokens are on the WAX Blockchain.

Alienworlds - Metaverse

Alienworlds - Metaverse

Alienworlds is one of the biggest play to earn games currently existing. With many hundreds of thousand accounts used so far. However, what most people don’t know yet, is that the current state of the game, the mining aspect, is just the first step in the alienworld roadmap. It’s an economic layer to distribute the token and get people into the metaverse. Soon the Alienworld council will launch, which is one DAO per planet, that has a huge ability to impact the alienworld metaverse.

Alienworlds and the TLM token is really the economic foundation to build out all the metaverse dreams upon, with huge TLM pots inside each planet that can be used to fund and really build up a huge experience.

With the current value of TLM, the combined pot of all the planetary funds that can be used as venture capital to build out more products around alienworlds is many millions of USD. Imagine what can be done with those funds… I did a tweet thread about it a few weeks ago.

The Sandbox - Metaverse

The Sandbox is likely one of the biggest, if not the biggest and most well known metaverse in the cryptosphere. Land owners in the Sandbox can build out their own game and allow other players to come, engage and play on it. There are many projects that buy land in The Sandbox that we still have no clue what they will use it for.

Surely it is an exciting future for sandbox with as many stakeholders as there currently is. Big companies and projects such as Binance, Atari, Animoca, Snoop dog, Deadmau5,  Flow, Opensea, WAX, Opera, Dappradar and many more.

Upcoming Games

The Forge Arena

The Forge Arena is the most exciting looking NFT game I’ve seen in the horizon. I’m a person that has played tons of games my entire life, and this game has a nice feeling like a match made in heaven between counter strike and Quake. The developers say it’s inspired by CSGO and Halo.

The Forge Arena started their path a few years ago, but got shut down because of funding issues. Now they have brought it back to life and will utilize NFTs for cosmetics in the game, a perfect match!

They have the first alpha game evening tournament for those that got a genzero NFT now in December. I’ve had an interview with the team and their short-term and long-term plans are very exciting! So I am really looking forward to see if the team can pull this off completely.

Warsaken - Card game

Warsaken is a new style card game that is aimed to be released both as a digital and physical game. The NFT art is high quality and the team seem passionate about their project. On their Youtube you can see a gameplay video between one of the team members and his son.

Currently they have a sale of their NFTs for the game, so you can get enough to put forth a deck when their digital version of the game launches.

I had a full interview with their team that you can listen to if you want to learn more about their game and long-term plans.

Summary

There are two major things to take away from this article. The first being that the NFT gaming space is growing at a rapid pace, the second is that there are so much happening that you really struggle to keep up with it all.

I have this vision of fully functioning game economies where people make a living only by playing these games, having fun, and living in this virtual world. I have had so much fun playing all the games in my youth, and a wet dream for many games is the ability to play the games, and make a living on it. Something that previously only has been possible for those that are the best of in the world, and/or, can maintain being an entertaining person on Twitch.

I think we are getting closer and closer into a reality where normal people can play games, for a living… This will change the world, in ways no one can imagine. I’m sure it’s not only positives, there are negative sides to staying indoors at your PC all day and missing physical interactions with people. But me, being an introvert, is really looking forward to this world.

What do you think of this? Do you think I am crazy, or is this the path forward in your view as well?
